Wizz Air Marks Milestone with 3 Million Passengers on Bucharest and Cluj-Napoca to London Luton Routes |
Celebrating a decade of affordable travel between Romania and the UK |
Wizz Air, Central and Eastern Europe's leading low-cost airline, has reached a significant milestone, transporting over 3 million passengers on its routes from Bucharest and Cluj-Napoca to London Luton Airport. This achievement underscores the airline's commitment to providing affordable travel options between Romania and the United Kingdom.
Since launching these services in 2007, Wizz Air has seen a steady increase in passenger numbers. The Bucharest to London Luton route now operates 18 weekly flights, while the Cluj-Napoca to London Luton route offers 14 weekly flights. This frequency provides travelers with flexible and cost-effective options for their journeys.
The popularity of these routes reflects the strong ties between Romania and the UK, facilitating both business and leisure travel. Wizz Air's expansion in Romania includes a fleet of 19 aircraft based at seven airports, employing over 600 dedicated crew members. The airline's network encompasses 119 routes to 18 countries, supporting more than 3,300 jobs in associated industries throughout Romania.
In recent years, Cluj-Napoca has emerged as a significant business hub. In 2024, the city accounted for 76% of all modern office space leased outside Bucharest, with companies occupying a total area of 48,008 square meters. This fourfold increase compared to 2023 highlights Cluj-Napoca's growing appeal to businesses. Major corporations such as Betfair, Orange, Banca Transilvania, Yopeso, Deloitte, Endava, Nestlé, MedLife, and SAP have established a presence in the city, contributing to its economic dynamism.
The surge in business activity has also impacted the local real estate market. The office vacancy rate in Cluj-Napoca decreased to 11% in 2024, down from 13.8% at the start of the year. This trend indicates a robust demand for office spaces, further solidifying the city's status as a key regional center.
Wizz Air's milestone coincides with these developments, reflecting the airline's role in supporting the region's growth. By offering affordable and frequent flights, Wizz Air facilitates business connections and tourism, contributing to the economic vitality of both Bucharest and Cluj-Napoca.
As Wizz Air continues to expand its services, passengers can look forward to more travel opportunities. The airline remains committed to enhancing customer experience and meeting the evolving needs of its Romanian customers.
In summary, Wizz Air's achievement of transporting over 3 million passengers on its Bucharest and Cluj-Napoca to London Luton routes is a testament to its dedication to affordable travel. This milestone, coupled with the economic growth in Cluj-Napoca, highlights the dynamic relationship between air travel and regional development. |
